Digital Subtruction Angiography(DSA) is a new examination method combining computer with conventional X-ray angiography. Take an image (mask image) of the same part of the human body when no contrast media is injected, take an image (image making or filling image) after the input of contrast media, and subtract the two images through image processing to obtain the subtracted image. In the subtracted image, background images such as bones and soft tissues are eliminated, leaving only images of blood vessels containing contrast media. It is often used to screen or treat vascular stenosis, and to diagnose various diseases by angiography of head and neck, heart and big vessels, visceral vessels and limbs.
Contrast media is a chemical product injected (or taken) into human tissues or organs to enhance the effect of image observation. The density of these products is higher or lower than that of the surrounding tissues, and the contrast formed is displayed with some instruments. Such as iodine preparation and barium sulfate commonly used for X-ray observation. The characteristic of iodine is that it does not penetrate X-ray, so when taking X-ray films, we can use the distribution of iodine in the body to produce contrast; Or make the blood vessels and soft tissues that cannot be seen on the X-ray films clear and shadow, so as to help doctors make reliable diagnosis. Contrast media can be taken orally or injected into arteries or veins and quickly distributed in the vascular system. Contrast media will not be metabolized (used up) or changed in the body. They will be eliminated from the body through the urinary system.
